Current Topics in BioSciences Management

This course develops major themes and emerging strategies in the pharmaceutical industry. The focus is on strategic planning, process improvement, outsourcing, globalization, federal regulation, global distribution, and deployment challenges for executives in the pharmaceutical industry. The course consists of a series of management presentations, frameworks, collaborative industry projects, and secondary research, with an emphasis on driving change in a dynamic and competitive global pharmaceutical industry.

  • Example of an assignment where a 'clue' was given for a past historical biosciences related event and the student was responsible for additional research on the topic to develop a 1-page synthesis. 

Research Methods in Marketing

This course offers systematic approach to structure, implementation and analysis of marketing research for decision making. Models of consumer demand and firm behavior analyzed in a marketing context.

Legal, Regulatory and Ethics Issues in Life Sciences Industries 

This course offers the exploration of an unique environment in which biotechnology research is conducted and resultant drugs and products are sold. Legal restraints affecting pharmaceutical marketing and reimbursement options; regulatory issues; pre-clinical research. Laws limiting or affecting pharmaceutical and biomedical marketing Ethical issues in the research and marketing processes.

  • Course literature review; Legal, Regulatory, and Ethical Considerations in Cellular Cultivated Meat Production.

Risk Management 

This course offers the exploration of an unique environment in which biotechnology research is conducted and resultant drugs and products are sold. Legal restraints affecting pharmaceutical marketing and reimbursement options; regulatory issues; pre-clinical research. Laws limiting or affecting pharmaceutical and biomedical marketing Ethical issues in the research and marketing processes.

  • Example of an assignment requiring writing a memo summarizingn the of the "Independent Directors of the Board of Wells Fargo & Company Sales Practices Investigation Report" and provide recommendations to the Warby Parker board.

The memo address the following

  1. Overview of Wells Fargo's previous sales model and potential cautions for Warby Parker in expanding operations and increasing revenues.

  2. Analysis of Wells Fargo's organizational structure, leadership, and corporate culture in 2016 and advice for Warby Parker to avoid similar issues.

  3. Examination of Wells Fargo's risk management approach and recommendations for Warby Parker to enhance their risk management functions.
